Congratulations Carlie!
FROM THE 2012 MISS
AMERICA PAGEANT

About The
Miss Maryland Organization!
We are an official preliminary of the Miss
America Organization one of the nation's
leading achievement programs and the world's
largest provider of scholarship assistance
for young women.
Last year, the Miss
America Organization and its state and local
organizations made available more than $45
million in cash and scholarship assistance.
This assistance is not just for the handful
of young women who become Miss America, but
is available to the over 12,000 young women
who compete in the state and local
competitions as well.
Rich in
history and social significance, the Miss
America Organization has maintained a
tradition for many decades of empowering
young women to achieve their personal and
professional goals, while providing a forum
in which to express their opinions, talent
and intelligence. Scholarships have been the
cornerstone of the Miss America program
since 1945 when Bess Myerson was the first
Miss America to receive a scholarship from
the Organization.
Participating in
the Miss America system not only helps you
pay for college and prepare for a career, it
also provides an opportunity to gain
additional life experience, work on issues
of importance to society, and enhance your
personal and professional skills while
developing your performance-related and
other talents.

Miss D.C., Maryland and Virginia vie
for Miss America crown — and big scholarship
money
By The Reliable
Source
Ashley Boalch at her crowning
as Miss D.C. 2011 last week. (Bruce Guthrie)
Another summer, another crop of local beauty
queens. With the crowning of Miss District
of Columbia last week, the lineup heading to
the Miss America pageant is now complete.
Rookies took two of the rhinestone
crowns: Ashley Boalch is new Miss D.C. 2011
and Carlie Colella will represent Maryland.
Virginia’s title went to pageant veteran
Elizabeth Crot — who finally won on her
fifth try.
The college students (one
just graduated, two will be seniors) had a
very modern reason for competing: money.
Together, they’ve won more than $33,000 in
scholarships, plus appearance fees that
they’ll earn during their year-long reigns.
And a shot at another $50,000 for the
national title in January.
